The Emmanuel Family

The Emmanuel family arrived in the Buxton Settlement in the year 1866. The matriarch of the family, Sarah Peterson was born in the United States around 1818. When Sarah was older, she married Samuel Emmanuel and they had ten children together. Leaving New York, the Emmanuel family first settled in Gravely Bay, Canada West and the family relocated to Gray County. Prior to Sarah’s final move, her husband Samuel passed away and she married Daniel Woolridge. Sarah, her new husband and their family moved to the Buxton Settlement and lived on the eighth concession.

Part of the family left Buxton some time after the Civil War and relocated in Nebraska. Descendents of the Emmanuel family still reside in Buxton today.
