Catherine Toyer

Early Settler of Buxton

Catherine was born in Maryland in 1804. She married George Hanson Toyer, also from the Maryland. Catherine and George had four children together. Their first child, Walter, was born Maryland in 1845. George and Catherine lived in Union Town, Pennsylvania by the birth of their second child, William, in 1850. A year later they moved their growing family to the Elgin Settlement. George purchased land on Lot 8 of the Tenth Concession. Catherine's daughter and youngest son were born in Buxton. The Toyer's raised their children (Walter, William Rufus, James, and Anna) in the rapidly growing settlement and were undoubtedly involved in many of the community projects that made Buxton evolve into a successful settlement.

Catherine Toyer died January 1, 1900. There are no Toyer descendents residing in Buxton today.
