Fanny Phares headstone

Found in the first cemetery of the Elgin Settlement, this headstone marks the grave of Fanny Farres (should be spelled Phares).  Fanny was one of the original settlers of Buxton and had been one of the slaves Rev. King inherited when his father-in-law, John Phares, died. Rev. King freed his slaves, assisted with the founding of the settlement, and brought them to Canada in 1849.
