The Hooper Family

The Hooper family arrived in the Buxton Settlement from Kentucky in 1851, two years after the founding of the settlement. Upon their arrival the family consisted of Alfred Hooper, his wife Julie Ann, and three children of their five children (William, James, Elizabeth, Margaret, and Dempsey). When the family settled in the Buxton Settlement, the Hooper family lived on the twelfth concession. During the civil war, William Hooper fought with the 14th United States Colored Troops of Tennessee. He survived the war and returned to Buxton where he married Senneth Burns. Their descendents continue to live in Buxton.
