The Clemens Family

James Clemens came to Buxton in a covered wagon with his father and they settled on property owned by Elbert Dyke.  James married Rachel Butler and they had three children.  There is no actual evidence naming Samuel Clemens (born approximately in 1815 and died January of 1885) as the father of James, however, Rachel and James named their second son Samuel Ellsworth Clemens. The year James died is unknown, Rachel died in 1905.  Their son James “Alfred” was adopted by the Toyer family.
