The Butler Family

 George Butler was born in Maryland around 1825, and it can be reasonably assumed in slavery.  George Butler purchased 50 acres on the Thirteenth Concession in the Elgin Settlement. The year George arrived at Buxton is not certain, however, he did serve in the Militia in 1866.  George married Catherine and they had six children. The year when Catherine came to Buxton is unknown. Catherine was born on March 24, 1822 in Albany, New York and therefore, born free.
