Thank You Glashan Public School ! |
The staff & volunteers of the Buxton National Historic Site & Museum would like to acknowledge the support of Glashan Public School, Ottawa. Since 2003 proceeds from their Black History play have been donated to our National Historic Site to help in the preservation of the history of the Elgin Settlement/Buxton Mission, a terminus of the Underground Railroad.Their considerable donations have assisted us in completing the restoration of an original 1850's log cabin which is now open to the public, and the making of a replica of the Buxton Liberty Bell which will soon be on display on the museum grounds. An official cemermony commemorating the bell will take place Mon. Sept.3, 2007 at the museum. It is because of the support of people like teacher Mr. Rick Desclouds, the students & staff of Glashan School and their commitment to community & promoting the cultural history of Canada that such projects can come to fruition. |
