He was sent with his brother John, to live
with his Uncle Henry K. to take advantage of the educational oportunities offered in
Buxton. After honour graduation he returned to Florence, Alabama where he assisted
hundreds of freed slaves to become established as freed men. He became a member of the
Alabama State Legislature. From 1873 - 1875 was a U.S. Congressman. |
